HPT Motorsports - Perrin Universal Progressive PWI-1 Water Injection System

The Perrin PWI-1 Water Injection System is a great addition to any turbocharged or supercharged car. Forced induction cars produce high intake temperatures, which can result in detonation and will cause your ECU to retard ignition timing; reducing power. Water and methanol injection have been around for quite some time, but have not been used to their full potential until recently. Perrin's PWI-1 Progressive Water Injection system takes advantage of this technology by releasing a small mist of water and/or methanol into the intake charge which results in significantly lower temperatures, more power, and an overall safer engine. With the Perrin PWI-1 installed you can expect to see gains in excess of 20whp depending on your setup. The Perrin PW-1 Water Injection System is great for turbo cars with small intercoolers, or non-intercooled superchargers.

The Perrin PWI-1 is controlled by "The Brain Box". Inside "The Brain Box" are three trim pots to fine tune the injection start points, pump gain, and nozzles flow rates. "The Brain Box" monitors the fuel injector duty cycles to control the delivery of 10-20% water/meth vs fuel throughout the entire RPM range. Non-progressive water injection systems use an "on/off" controller to supply a fixed volume of coolant no matter how much fuel is in the combustion chamber. These inferior systems often deliver too much water at lower RPMS and not enough water at higher revs. This can cause a loss in power, at both lower RPMs (too much water) and high RPMS (no detonation control).

A uniquely designed hydro pump moves the coolant in the PWI-1 kit. The PWI-1 uses an electromagnet housing around a piston. On each side of the piston is a one way valve. When the electromagnet is energized, it moves the piston to one side forcing fluid out of the pump, while continuously drawing fluid in. A spring returns the piston back into place ready for another pump. The PWI-1 cycles many times a second producing a constant and reliable flow with almost no moving parts. Another key feature of the PWI-1 pump is that all internal seals are Teflon™, which allows nearly any concentration of water and methanol to be used.

There are many safety and warning features integrated into the Perrin PWI-1 Water Injection System so that if a nozzle gets clogged or the tank gets low, there will be no surprises. These warnings are shown on a dash mounted display and with tuning you can have your ECU cut boost, or switch to a safe map (if it has this capability). The dash display also uses it's ultra-bright LED's to indicate when the system starts spraying. Additionally, two buttons located at the top of the display turn the system on and allow the tuner to test the system by temporarily turning the pump up to maximum flow.

Notes: To get the most out of this system, ECU tuning is needed. The Perrin PWI-1 Water Injection System can be used with a stock ECU, most piggyback systems, and full stand alone units. This kit does not include a tank, so you must tap your windshield washer fluid tank, or purchase an alternate reservoir.
