Most factory equipped turbocharged
cars come standard with an internal wastegate setup, as they are
usually cheaper to manufacture and HP levels are reduced for daily
driving applications. However, when building high HP race
applications, tuners will turn to an external wastegate to allow for
maximum performance and gains and are also commonly used for regulating
boost levels more precisely than internal wastegates. Note:
External wastegate applications require custom turbo exhaust
manifolds that are specially designed for proper wastegate mounting and
